SAD LITTLE BIRD - Poetry by John Njoroge

I've heard this little bird sing
Sad melodies that in my ears ring
And drive my soul awake
To console this little bird by the lake
That sing sad melodies of her own
To lament why it did dawn.

I've seen this little bird
Follow the scent of flowers that bud
And painfully suck
As if cursing her luck
And reluctantly fly away
To her nest where she lay.

I've seen this little bird
Isolating her lonely self
And burying her poor body
Deep in thick bushes
To escape the approach of fellow birds.

I've watched this little bird
Fly swiftly when darkness approach
Singing sweet melodies of merry
That someday darkness will reign
On her life full of sorrow
And die a painless death.
